DURHAM CONGREGATIONS IN ACTION

DCIA Zoom Program on Islam in America,
TODAY, June 15 at 12 Noon
DCIA is hosting a Zoom program on Tuesday, June 15, at 12:00 noon, on "The Development of Islam in America," featuring Imam Abdul Hafeez Waheed with the Duke Center for Muslim Life.  After Imam Waheed's presentation, he will have some brief conversation with Rev. Katie Crowe, and then will invite questions and discussion on Zoom.  In 1998, Imam Waheed became the first Muslim Chaplain at Duke University, and he has since served on the staff of Religious Life at Duke, where he also currently serves as an instructor in Duke's Continuing Education program. For the last 41 years, Imam Waheed has been an active member of the Muslim American Community in association with the renowned leader and thinker Imam W. Deen Mohammed. Imam Waheed has served in the position of chaplain in city, state, and federal correctional institutions; he has also served as resident Imam in the Bronx and Durham and has been a respected leader in the Durham area for the last 27 years.

This program is sponsored by DCIA's Bishop Elroy Lewis Interfaith Fund. Bishop Elroy Lewis was pastor of Fisher Memorial Church in Durham for 36 years, and during his ministry he would annually host a gathering of members of different faith traditions to listen and learn from each other. The Fund endeavors to continue the good work of Bishop Lewis.
